"I like words that begin with the letter C." Why? "Because they sound like they're just coming out of the water."

A four year old said this to me today. I wasn't sure I heard her properly, so I repeated her words. And she just quietly nodded and kept working on her clay.

Like poetry. Just like that.

I brought this up on the screen during my teaching of a Curriculum Class because we were talking about creating art experiences for children. It was the general consensus, (probably led by my own strong belief) that art expereiences for children should be purely creative experiences, and not meant to teach a concept or skill. The little girl you quoted was obviously feeling free of any judgments or expectations. She was creatively expressing herself in words and with the medium of clay. Well done, Jess!
